The Student Sonographer is responsible for operating ultrasound equipment for cardiac and/or vascular ultrasound exams under the direct supervision of a registered Sonographer. They examine patients, review orders and medical charts, and maintain detailed records of examination results. They also evaluate and report findings to reading physicians, promote professional practice within the ultrasound team, and participate in quality monitoring and accreditation activities. The Student Sonographer must be currently enrolled in an accredited cardiac ultrasound education program and eligible for Sonography credentialing once the program is completed. They should have at least three months of formal ultrasound education. Physical requirements include the ability to sit or stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 pounds, read patient and clinical test information, perform repetitive motions, and hear normal speech. The job may involve working in an environment with frequent exposure to hazardous materials, infectious agents, and radiation.
