Video Summary
The module reviewed common management principles for hypertension and hyperlipidemia. For hypertension, normal BP is under 120/80, and treatment depends on BP stage and ASCVD risk. Key risks include obesity, sodium intake, smoking, alcohol, inactivity, sleep apnea, and age/family history. Primary hypertension is most common, but secondary causes—renal disease, renal artery stenosis, endocrine disorders, OSA, and medications—should be considered when BP is resistant or early onset. Management starts with accurate BP measurement, lifestyle changes, and first-line drugs such as thiazides, ACE inhibitors, ARBs, or calcium channel blockers. Hypertensive emergencies require ICU care and IV therapy.

For hyperlipidemia, risk depends on LDL level, family history, diabetes, ASCVD, and sometimes ApoB/particle burden. Statins are first-line for most patients, especially those with ASCVD, LDL ≥190, diabetes, or elevated 10-year risk. Ezetimibe, PCSK9 inhibitors, fibrates, and omega-3s may be added selectively, with triglycerides >500 requiring urgent treatment to prevent pancreatitis.
