Pdf Summary
This document provides an overview of the findings from a survey on Nurse Navigators (NN) and Nurse Coordinators (NC) in the field of cardiology. The survey received responses from 48 cardiovascular programs across the USA. The majority of programs employ NNs and/or NCs, and of those that don't, a significant percentage are considering hiring for these roles.

The survey also looked at the length of time these roles have been present in organizations, with most programs having had NNs and NCs for 3 years or more. In terms of employment and reporting structure, the majority of NNs and NCs are employed by hospitals or health systems. Job titles vary, with Coordinator and Navigator being the most commonly used.

Requirements for these roles include BSN or MSN degrees, cardiology experience, and certifications. Compensation typically consists of a salary, with hourly pay being less common.

NNs and NCs have various duties, including clinical and administrative responsibilities. They work with different patient populations, including those with heart failure and structural heart issues. Metrics that are commonly tracked include length of stay, readmissions, mortality, and registry data.

Challenges in these roles include demonstrating value, ensuring competitive compensation, and managing heavy workloads. However, there is generally high satisfaction and success in retaining NNs and NCs.

The report highlights the need for standardized definitions and roles for NNs and NCs, as well as the importance of leveraging nurses to the top of their scope in team-based care models. It also provides information on upcoming webinars related to NNs, NCs, and cardiovascular service line administrators.

For more information, contact Jenny Kennedy at jkennedy@mediaxiom.com.
