COURSE DESCRIPTION
This six-week course is designed for new cardiovascular (CV) advanced practice providers (APPs) working in electrophysiology (EP) or for general CV APPs who wish to expand their EP knowledge. The course incorporates videos, textbooks and publications to cover these essential topics:
- Module 1: Introduction to Electrophysiology: Anatomy and Physiology
- Module 2: Advanced 12 Lead EKG Interpretation
- Module 3: Brady-arrhythmias
- Module 4: Atrial Tachyarrhythmias
- Module 5: Ventricular Tachyarrhythmias
- Module 6: Device Management

COURSE GOALS
For APPs: This curriculum is designed to help new APPs immerse themselves in EP. The lecture material will cover the pertinent topics APPs can expect to see in EP daily, covering epidemiology, pathophysiology, clinical presentation, diagnosis, and management, to allow the participant to make sound, evidence-based clinical decisions.
For Employers of APPs: This curriculum will facilitate the APPs’ on-the-job learning while enhancing their clinical competence and ability to improve patient outcomes.
FACULTY
Maureen Knechtel, MPAS, PA-C
Maureen A. Knechtel, MPAS, PA-C, received a bachelor’s degree in health sciences and a master’s in physician assistant studies from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA. She has spent her clinical career specializing in general cardiology and cardiac electrophysiology. She teaches EKG interpretation to physician assistants and nurse practitioners. She has been a guest lecturer nationally and locally on topics including EKG interpretation, chronic angina, ischemic heart disease in women, hypertension and mixed hyperlipidemia. Knechtel is a fellow member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and the Tennessee Academy of Physician Assistants and currently serves as academic coordinator and associate professor with the Milligan University Physician Assistant Program in northeast Tennessee.

THE METHODOLOGY
Each of the six weekly lessons has a 30-60 minute didactic video detailing the week’s focus, followed by assigned reading. This course can be taken at the student’s own pace but must be completed within 12 months of starting the course. Students must complete the course evaluation to receive CME credits and a certificate of completion.
